Argus was our second dogue de bordeaux and first black mask. We purchased him for $1500 from his breeders Ted Kobstad and Peter Curley in December of 1995 as a wedding gift to ourselves. He was the son of TNT Harley de Merrimac x Elma. Argus died in 1996 from renal dysplasia.

When he was a new pup, his mother's milk went bad, but being he was the runt, he did not ingest as much as the rest of the litter. His brothers and sisters all died, but he lived. At the time we did not know much about dogs and breeding and did not think much of this fact. We purchased him in good faith from someone we thought we could trust.

When he was around 10-11 months old, it was evident that there was something wrong. He was not holding his urine in the house and crate, his gums would bleed, he had bad breath, poor coat and bumpy skin. After many visits our vet refered us to Garden State Veterniary Specialists. There it was confirmed he had kidney failure. His kidenys' were the size of silver dollars with no filtration system inside them. Argus was going to die

The vet said it was an indication of toxic poisoning. My dogs are not with chemicals and there is nothing in our yard... I explained the bad milk of his mother. The vet confirmed that it was the reason for the renal dysplasia - toxic/poisonus milk from the mother when he was a puppy. His one breeder that we had access to (knew how to contact and find) was notified and they accepted the diagnosis as congienial, and agreed to us keeping Argus until he died, and replacing him as per our contract. This breeder also told the other breeder of the situation.

Argus' days were spent being comfortable, he still enjoyed to show, so we would show him. Each morning we had to prepare his meal, a low protein diet (protein caused damage) of boiled rice, raw meat and raw eggs. This went on until November 4, 1996. On November 4 Arggie stopped eating, and what he did eat, he would throw it up. The morning of November 6, I found Argus in seizures, it was time. With me holding him, and Tom by my side, the vet eased Argus into a peaceful sleep. Argus died November 6, 1996

Argus was born July 10, 1995, he died November 6, 1996. It is now June 20, 2004. To this date we have not received a replacement dog or a refund of our money. We have been told in writing by Ted Kobstad "you will never get a dog from me" and told verbally if we wanted to get the other breeders' half of the money, we would "have to find him ourselves." I have found that breeder, and wrote to him about the situation, asking if they will make good on what their ex-partner in Argus' breeding will not. Our request has been ignored. Advice to everyone, never purchase a Dogue de Bordeaux from Peter Curley - dba TNT Bordeaux or Ted Kobstad - dba Titan Bordeaux
