In April of 2005 we lost Alcye, the second baby from our first litter to pass away. She died after a very short and hard battle with cancer and a sudden onset of bloat. Ally's passing was a hard blow on her family and the entire Bordeaux community. To this day she remains the only female Dogue de Bordeaux to ever win the Best in Show at the DDBS Nationals, and with that in mind, each year we hope a girl wins the show. We still look forward to the day for another female to take this title. Ally was a fantastic dog, she was loving and gentle, yet a protector of her family and friends, she had outstanding type. She will be greatly missed by all, especially her family, the Kanakis's of Long Island, Pete, Barbara, Zoie and most of all, Tony. Alyce would have been 8 years old this August.
She won her first BOB at the age of 6 months. In 1998 at the DDBS National Show, NJ under Philipe Serioul of France she won first place in her class. In 1999 she took 2nd Place Open Bitch at the DDBS National Specialty in GA with Peter v Moontfoort of the Netherlands. In 2000 she won Best of Breed at the ERBDC show, April 2000 under Charlie Costello of the USNMC, and two Best of Breeds and her first Group 1 at the Rarities show in Lumberton, NJ. She then went on to win the 2000 DDBS National Show Best Female, Best of Breed, Best in Show, under Mr. Andre LeBlond of France in Missouri where she won over the 1998, 1999 #1 Dogue de Bordeaux, Matuszak. In September of 2000 she won Best Female, Best of Breed, at the DDBS NE Regional specialty in Lumberton NJ under Peter van Montfort of the Netherlands, who then awarded her Group 1 and her second Best in Show. The next day she won Best Female, Best of Breed at the USBC Regional show under Annick Keller. Her next accomplishment was going to Bordeaux France with Tom and I for the SADB French Club Nationals. I handled her to an excellent and a fouth place open female - a great accomplishment, the judge was Mr. Andre LeBlond. October brought her to the Rarities Canadian Dogue de Bordeaux National to win the Best of Breed under Annick Keller, who then awarded her a Group 1 and her thrid Best In Show. This was supposed to be her retirement, but in November, her owner arranged to transport a rescue to a show in Conneticut and brought her along for the ride, where she went to win another Best of Breed, Group 1 and her fourth Best in Show.
Alyce was CGC'd in 1999 earning her WD1, TT in 2000 and TAN tested in 2000. She is one of only a three American Dogues de Bordeaux to have received her TAN testing in France. Her certifications have been approved by the DDBS.
Alyce lives on Long Island with her owner and family and her friend Cokie. She was one of the top rated Dogues de Bordeaux in Penn Hip having a very favorable score without DJD. Ally never produced and suffered from a fatal disease in female unspayed dogs, pyometra. To save her life she was spayed in 2003. She will now make apperances at specialty shows as a veteran, as she has reached the ripe old age of 6 this past August. We are still very proud of Alyce and her accomplisments. She is a jewel to us and always will be.
